Brad Sullivan scored twice whilst Liam Ellis, Kane Wallwork and Michael Afuye were also on the scoresheet as the visitors recorded their first preseason victory in another highly competitive friendly encounter.
Manager Alex Frost again elected to field largely different sides in each half, with Dom Smalley and Vani Da Silva making their Avro debuts in the first period. Joe Rathbone went close to breaking the deadlock early on, but ultimately it was Ellis who gave his side the lead from the penalty spot on 26 minutes, after Muis Bibire Bello had been bundled over in the area.
Wallwork doubled the lead on the stroke of half time, when his low drive from a short corner played to him by Rathbone took a slight deflection and flew into the back of the net. The second half saw under 21s keeper Josh Griffin make his first team debut, and after an even opening twenty minutes, Avro scored three times in quick succession.
Sullivan glanced home a Matty Crothers corner from the left, and after Afuye had cut in from the right before finding the bottom corner, a defensive error gave him the opportunity to double his tally for the evening, which he did in emphatic fashion. An excellent night’s work was thus complete, and attention now turns to the visit of Wythenshawe FC to the Vestacare Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
