Afuye wins POTM award for August

Michael Afuye has won the first Player Of The Month vote of the season, capturing the award for August after a close contest with runner up Jack Worrall in our online poll.

Nearly 200 supporters cast their vote in the 24 hour period for which the poll was live on Twitter, and at the end of it all 41% chose Afuye as their stand out performer, with Worrall just behind on 38%. Midfielder Adam Owen finished third with 21%, with many other strong contenders not even making the shortlist, such has been the depth of quality on show in these first few outstanding weeks of the season.

Afuye’s sparkling start to the campaign, during which time he has scored six goals in eleven games, was ultimately enough to swing the vote in his favour, just ahead of the young full back who has been an absolute rock on the right side of our defence, and has now played nearly eleven hours of competitive football for his new club in the last five weeks! Owen’s skilful and resilient displays on the left flank, along with his non-stop energy, have also been a big factor in our successes.

Thanks to all of you who voted, and congratulations to Michael on your success!
