Chadderton drew first blood but Avro overwhelmed the visitors in the second-half

During the week, joint manager Mike Norton had told the media team at Avro that the squad were determined to play entertaining and attacking football.
Yesterday, (Saturday, July 13) that is exactly what fans received when we welcomed Chadderton to the Vestacare Stadium for our first pre-season home game.
Despite a close first-half, the squad took flight in the second period of the game to win 4-1.

The visitors got an early present after Avro put one into the net soon after kick-off but the goal was ruled to be offside.
Twenty two minutes into the first-half and Avro had another great attempt on goal that was effectively dealt with by the Chadderton defence.
It would be the away side who would draw blood after they netted off a set piece around half an hour into the game to go up 1-0.
Avro managed to claw one back before the break thanks to a remarkable free-kick that saw Jake Cottrell beat the keeper.
This goal combined with Cottrell’s high work rate saw him awarded the man of the match and helped get Avro back into the game before the break.
Both teams came off the pitch at the respite tied at 1-1 after a tough and challenging opening half.
From the moment Avro walked back on from half-time, they were the stronger of the two sides.

Avro started to press more and the attacking players of the formation turned on the goal tap, netting three more before the final whistle.
“It was a tough game, I thought Chadderton did really well,” said joint manager David Birch.
“They are a good team.
“I don’t think our formation was great in the first half, we struggled a little bit.
“In the second, we changed it.
“I thought we did really well and it was a good performance in the end.”
Avro will now play Guiseley at home on Wednesday (kick-off 7.45pm).
