Avro are delighted to announce the signing of Cam Mason.
Cam joins The Ro as the first signing of a new era for the club, with the fact that he is a goalkeeper making it an especially fitting one for new boss Grant Shenton.
Cam brings with him a wealth of experience, having made over 200 appearances in the National League North. His longest stint was a seven year tenure at Curzon Ashton, for whom he made over 150 appearances. He next moved to Southport in 2021, spending two seasons with The Sandgrounders.
After a brief spell at Guiseley, Cam returned to The Tameside Stadium for a second stint with The Nash, this time making 35 appearances in their historic run to the National League North Play-Offs.
Last summer, after multiple teams battled for his signature, it was Chester who won the race to sign the experienced shot stopper. After starting the first five league matches of the season, an injury forced him to spend a spell on the sidelines, and having regained full fitness, he completed the season with loan spells at Matlock Town and Bradford Park Avenue.
There is little doubt that it is a massive coup for Avro to have secured the signature of a player who boasts the quality and experience that Cam will provide between the sticks in our third season in NPL Division One West.
Grant Shenton spoke of his delight at securing the services of such a high quality replacement for himself:
“Once I was appointed manager, my first port of call was to find someone really decent who could step into my shoes. I’ve managed to do that by bringing in a goalkeeper who was wanted by many clubs in leagues which are two or three levels above us right now. Getting Cam in is therefore one hell of a bit of business for us.”
“Cam is a phenomenal goalkeeper and I’m over the moon with the fact that we’ve managed to convince him to come and join the club. He’s played plenty of games at National League level, and I’ve played against him enough times to appreciate the quality that he brings to the table. I’m very, very excited to get him playing for us this year, and it shows the club’s intent in terms of what we’re looking to do moving forward. We are all delighted to welcome him with open arms.”
Cam Mason also gave his reaction to joining the club:
“I’m delighted to have signed for Avro. It’s a great chance for me to play for a fantastic local club and work with the gaffer, who I’ve known and respected for a long time. I’m really looking forward to getting out there!”
