Match Preview: Avro – Hyde United (FA Trophy)

Avro take a temporary break from the league as they look to progress to the second round of the FA Trophy, but they first have to get past fellow Northern Premier League Premier Division side Hyde United tomorrow afternoon. Last time out for the Ro, it was a narrow 3-2 win over Ashton United, who almost made the impossible comeback to bring the game from 3-0 to 3-2.

Since 2018, Hyde United have been playing in the Northern Premier League Premier Division after earning promotion from the NPL Division One North. Last season was one to forget for the Tigers as they finished in 15th place, but sat near and sometimes in the relegation zone for most of the season. Last time out for the Lions, they were knocked out of the Cheshire Senior Cup by National League North Side Chester FC, who defeated Hyde with a scoreline of 2-0.

It’s a big game, and your support would be much appreciated as the Ro looks to progress through to the second round proper of the FA Trophy!

Hyde United:

Founded in 1919, Hyde United’s history has comprised many ups and plenty of downs. The Tigers participated as high as the National League, one promotion away from the Football League, but only lasted two years in the division and had one of the worst seasons in the history of Step 1 as they finished last with a total of 10 points. Just a season later, they were relegated back to the Northern Premier League, finishing bottom of the Conference North with 21 points, and things got even worse as they suffered a third relegation, this time to the Northern Premier League Division One North. Fortunately for Hyde, they managed to bounce back up in the 2017/2018 season, finishing in third place and gaining automatic promotion due to multiple lateral changes in the Premier Division. Since their return to the NPL Premier Division, The Tigers have sat in the top half of the table most of the time with only two season where they finished outside of it, coming in the 2021/2022 and 2025/2026 season. So far this season, Hyde have struggled in the league; despite sitting in 14th place, the side have only won four out of 15 games. This record, alongside the defeat to Chester in the midweek, saw the club sack manager Michael Clegg and appoint Nick Spooner as his replacement.

Head to Head:

Avro and Hyde have faced each other more than once over the last few years, with the most recent game occurring earlier this season. On August 22nd, The Ro secured a narrow 1-0 over Hyde after an early goal by Harry Showman.
