After a disappointing midweek exit in the Manchester Premier Cup, Avro return to league action this weekend when we welcome Chasetown to The Vestacare. With Lower Breck and Atherton Collieries still to come in the next week, it is set to be a big week for Avro against sides all in and around the play-off picture, starting with Chasetown this Saturday. With Avro coming back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 last week away at Sporting Khalsa, Grant Shenton has been keen to show that his side have the grit and determination to get the points they need to match the ambitions of the season.
Chasetown:
Chasetown FC was founded in 1954 as Chase Terrace Old Scholars Youth Club and renamed Chasetown FC in 1972. They become the lowest-ranked club to reach the Third Round Proper in the 2007-8 season after being Port Vale. This is their third season competing in the Northern Premier League West after joining the league in the 2023-24 season. The enjoyed a successful campaign last time out after finishing 4th in the league and reaching the play-off stages. However, they fell short and were forced to settle for another season in the NPL West after losing out on penalties away at Congleton Town.
Head to Head:
The sides have met four times in the Northern Premier League West with one victory for The Ro, two for Chasetown and one draw. The draw came in our most recent encounter on the final day of last season as the sides played out a 1-1 draw at The Vestacare. Liam Ellis put The Ro ahead after 10 minutes with the visitors levelling up just three minutes later after a mix up at the back saw Deane Smalley convert into his own net. With the stakes a lot higher this time around, it’s sure to be a competitive fixture.
