It’s a busy bank holiday weekend for Avro, starting tomorrow when The Ro host Stafford Rangers at The Vestacare. This is the penultimate home fixture of the season with the final home fixture coming next weekend, 26th April, with the visit of Chasetown.
Avro head into this game tomorrow on the back of defeat for the first time in seven league games after a narrow defeat against Runcorn Linnets last weekend. It was an Avro side that was missing key players with the likes of Jake Cottrell, Kyle Hawley and Kane Wallwork all absent. It was a battling performance from The Ro throughout who were always in the game and it was a match which always had the feeling that whoever found the net first would claim the points. The deadlock was broken in the 54th minute when Adam Moseley put Runcorn ahead with a finish at the far post. Avro were unable to find a way back into the game but it was however a proud moment for Harry Salt, who was introduced of the bench to make his Northern Premier League debut.
The visitors for tomorrow, Stafford Rangers, have turned their season around as of late. A positive run of form over recent weeks has seen them clear of any relegation worries with another season in the Northern Premier League West mathematically secured. Stafford started the month with a thumping win against City of Liverpool, in an 8-0 win at The DCBL. This was followed up most recently by an impressive win against play off contenders, Congleton Town, in a 2-0 home victory on home turf. With Stafford seemingly finding goals flowing for fun, Avro will be well aware they will have to be at their best defensively to keep Stafford out tomorrow.
It has been a while since the sides last met, with the last fixture between the two coming on the 17th September. This was an entertaining fixture with all four goals coming in the first half with Avro holding out for an impressive 3-1 win. After Dan Cockerline put the hosts ahead, Avro levelled just 5 minutes later thanks to a strike off the post from Benito Lowe. Two wonderful strikes from Max Harrop made it 1-2 and 1-3 to The Ro heading into the break with Avro able to defend a comfortable lead for the second half. They did just this as Stafford failed to present any clear chances to the Avro defence and it was The Ro who held on to win their first away league game of the season.
