After a brief break in play due to re-arranged fixtures, Avro return to league action tomorrow afternoon when we welcome Wythenshawe Town to The Vestacare for back-to-back league fixtures. With Lower Breck on cup duty, we have taken the opportunity to bring this fixture forward to prevent Avro going two weekends without a fixture.
It was just over a week ago when we last faced Wythenshawe Town and, despite going up 2-0 at the break thanks to a Kyle Hawley double, The Ro were held to a point after two second half goals from Wythenshawe Town. This continued a difficult run of form against the visitors; we will look to claim our first victory against Wythenshawe Town since our promotion to the Northern Premier League.
Wythenshawe Town:
Wythenshawe Town were founded in 1946, initially playing under the name of North Withington Amaetur Football Club. In 2014, they recorded one of their best seasons as they won every league and cup fixture and earnt the title of invincibles in the Cheshire League. This run saw them win all of their 39 games. Town first went Semi-Pro in the 2017/18 season after promotion to the North West Counties South Division following two seasons in the Cheshire Premier League. They earned promotion to the Northern Premier League West in the 2023-24 season. After missing out on promotion via goal difference, they won their play-off fixtures against Padiham and Bury to gain promotion from the Northern Premier League West Counties Premier. In their first season at this level, they finished in the bottom four after a difficult end to the season. However, thanks to a reprieve, they were able to take their place once again in the NPL West.
Head to Head:
Avro continued to find Wythenshawe Town as a bogey side, when The Ro drew 2-2 at Ericstan Park just over a week ago. After losing both fixtures 1-0 last season, Avro thought they would finally claim victory against Wythenshawe Town when they went into the break 2-0 up thanks to a double from Kyle Hawley. However, two second half goals saw The Ro held to a point despite the impressive first half performance. Avro will be looking to take the points at the 4th time of asking this weekend when we host Wythenshawe Town at The Vestacare.
