Avro host their first home fixture of the calendar year tomorrow, Saturday 4th January, looking to build on a New Year’s Day away win at Seel Park against Mossley. Wythenshawe Town are the visitors tomorrow. Both sides are familiar opponents from our days in the North West Counties.
It was a gutsy performance last time out from Avro as they clinched a late winner thanks to a strike in the 80th minute from Liam Ellis. The match was played in tough conditions due to the amount of rainfall that had fallen in and around the area over the previous 24 hours. However, it was a credit to the staff at Mossley for the hard work that had gone into the pitch to ensure the game could go ahead. Both sides had chances in the game to go ahead but Liam Ellis’ 8thgoal of the season came at the perfect time to seal all 3 points on the day.
After a recent spell of positive results, Avro head into this fixture looking ahead to the play off charge rather than looking behind them as they sit just 7 points off the play off places in 9thwith a couple of games in hand over the sides above them. The first of which comes on Tuesday night when Avro travel to face Newcastle Town in a re-arranged fixture.
Wythenshawe Town will head into this fixture with confidence after their derby day victory over Wythenshawe on boxing day. Over 1,200 people attended this eagerly anticipated clash, and it was Wythenshawe Town who claimed the bragging rights with a 2-0 victory.
After gaining promotion to the Northern Premier League West last season with victory over Bury FC, Wythenshawe Town enjoyed the dream start to life in the division with a convincing 3-0 away win at Hanley Town. This was swiftly followed up with a second win in a row soon after as an early goal from Rodney Ajayi sealed the deal in a 1-0 win against The Ro. George Boyd has been a key player this season for Wythenshawe Town. George has had a highly successful career after featuring for many EFL teams such as Peterborough United, Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday. He’s currently their top goalscorer this season with 8 and is certainly a player to watch out for.
It was a historic year for Avro in 2024 and we’d love as many people as possible to attend what is sure to be an entertaining clash tomorrow as we look to make this year even better. Tickets are still available for this fixture via our website while pay on the day will be available on the turnstiles. Payment by cash and card are accepted.
