After a luxury of a week off, Avro return to league action tomorrow, 22nd March, when The Ro make the relatively short trip to Northwich to face Witton Albion. This being the first of four away league games that Avro have left in the calendar.
Avro head into this fixture on the back of a positive run of results in recent weeks, winning their last three league fixtures. The Ro travel to Witton tomorrow looking to extend this winning streak to 4 consecutive wins, a run of form which has seen Avro clear from the threat of relegation with a gap that currently sits at 13 points from Kidsgrove Athletic who occupy the final relegation place on 41 points.
Last time out, it was a convincing win for Avro in a 3-0 victory over Vauxhall Motors. The Motors arrived at The Vestacare looking to close the gap on league leaders Widnes in the fight for the title, but the game didn’t pan out this way as it was a resurgent Avro who controlled the game and headed into the break 3 goals ahead thanks to goals from AJ Warburton, Jake Cottrell, and Kyle Hawley. The most notable of strikes was from captain Jake Cottrell as he seen his attempt from the halfway line, straight over Swindell in the Vauxhall goal. It was a relatively quiet second half, but Avro saw the game out well to hold on to a 3-0 lead and make it three wins on the trot.
Witton Albion head into this game having endured mixed fortunate as of late. In their last two league fixtures they have won two, drawn two and lost two with their two defeats coming in their last three league fixtures. Last weekend, it was a fixture to forget as they left Shawbridge empty handed in a heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of Clitheroe.
James Hooper is the current top goal scorer for Witton Albion, with the striker leading the way on 6 league goals for the season. Joe Duckworth and Reece Daly was above James Hooper, however, both players have departed the U Lock It Stadium. Joe Duckworth has joined fellow Northern Premier League West Side Stalybridge Celtic while Reece Daly was recalled from his loan by parent club Chester. Also amongst the ranks for Witton Albion is familiar face to many at Avro, Max Harrop. Max was an ever present in the debut NPL season for Avro last season, as well as making 13 league appearances in the current campaign before making the move to Witton Albion.
The sides last met in November, with The Ro dominating the tie, running out 4-0 victors. First half goals from AJ Warburton and Benito Lowe put The Ro into a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break. A quick fire second half double from Liam Ellis doubled the lead to 4-0 just before the hour mark and made it a comfortable last half hour for Avro to see out the game and secure a much needed three points. Avro will be hoping for a repeat of this performance tomorrow.
