Avro secured another three points on the road after a late goal by Joel Igwenwanne made it 2-1 against Atherton Collieries at the Dreams 2 Reality Stadium
Within the first minutes of the match, the Ro would have an amazing chance to take the lead as the ball was played into the box for Ryley Smith, who redirected the ball towards the net. Unfortunately, Kier Barry saved the shot and kept the game deadlocked.
In the 16th minute, Atherton Collieries had themselves a free kick just a few yards outside the box. Sam Sheridan stepped up and sent the ball towards the net, but his shot narrowly missed the post.
Around the 30th-minute mark, the Ro were awarded a penalty after one of the Collieries defenders blocked a pass with his elbow. Kyle Hawley stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to put Avro in the lead.
Nearing the end of the half, Jake Cottrell had himself an opportunity to extend the Ro’s lead as Hawley played the ball back for him. Unfortunately, despite his power shot being on target, Kier Barry saved his shot and kept the game at 1-0.
Around the 60th-minute mark, Harry Salt managed to dribble his way into the box and, from a tight angle, attempted to put the ball over the keeper, who parried it away from the net. Then, just a few seconds later, Ryley Smith cut inside the boxfrom the right flank and fired the ball towards the bottom right corner of Collieries’ net. However, his shot was saved as the host’s keeper, Kier Barry, managed to block the shot just in time.
In the 73rd minute, Kielen Adams whipped the ball into the box for Alex Doyle at the near post. Doyle managed to have enough room to volley the ball into the top netting to grab the Collieries their well-deserved equaliser.
With a few minutes left of the match, the Ro had an opportunity to reclaim the lead with a free kick on the right side of the hosts’ box. Adam Owen stepped up for the free kick and played the ball to the far post, where Joel Igwenwanne was waiting. The Ro’s fullback managed to head the ball into the net for the winner, despite the keeper getting his hand on the shot.
With this result, Avro are now four games unbeaten in the league and are only two points behind league leaders Lower Breck.
