Avro go unbeaten in four matches after a Harry Salt header secured a narrow 1-0 win against lowly Wythenshawe Town.
Avro started the match on the back end, struggling to deal with Wythenshawe Town’s attacks, until the 20th, when Chiekh Thiam whipped the ball into the box for the Ro’s number nine, Kyle Hawley. This play caught the keeper off guard and left his right side open for Hawley to slot the ball in; However, his shot hit the post, wasting the amazing chance to go ahead.
Two minutes later, Harry Salt found himself through on goal with only the keeper to beat after getting on the end of a through ball from over the top of the defence. Salt would attempt to get the ball through the keeper’s legs, but Luke Hewitson was able to stop the ball and stop the chance.
Just before the end of the half, Thiam was able to get past his man and play the ball into the box for Kyle Hawley once again. However, despite Hawley jumping high to meet the ball in the air, the ball would shoot over him and out for a goal kick.
In the 54th minute, the Ro played the ball into the box from a corner, which allowed unmarked Harry Salt to head the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to make it 1-0 to Avro and secured his first-ever goal in the Northern Premier League.
Around the 70th-minute mark, Cam Mason would take out Spencer Cunliffe just outside the box in a reckless challenge. This incident would result in the keeper’s second yellow card and saw him get sent off by the referee.
Just before the end of the game, Avro substitute Tawab Djankpata would start a run from the midfield, managing to find his way through the visitors’ midfield and defence before having a shot on goal. Unfortunately, for the substitute, his shot was saved by the keeper.
Despite going down to ten men, the Ro were able to secure all three points against Wythenshawe Town and are now unbeaten in four matches.
