Avro saw their first home league fixture of the campaign end in a 1-1 stalemate after a competitive clash with Bury yesterday evening. A fortunate deflection onto Tawab Djankpata put Avro ahead before Bury drew level thanks to a header from Louis Isherwood.
Grant Shenton made two changes to the side that claimed an opening day victory against Stafford Rangers with Anton Dudik and Tawab Djankpata named in the starting eleven replacing Adam Owen and Dylan Gairns.
It was a positive start from Avro who started the opening stages with intensity and created a couple early chances. Anton Dudik was the first to test Allen in The Shakers goal, but his shot from distance was saved comfortably. Shortly after, Avro had claims for a penalty waved away after Tawab Djankpata went down inside the box.
On the half hour mark, Avro found themselves ahead. After a goalmouth scramble, an attempted clearance from the Bury defence appeared to strike Tawab Djankpata and fly into the top corner to put Avro ahead. It wasn’t how he imagined to score his first Avro goal, but they all count!
Bury found themselves level just two minutes before half time. A curling effort from Kai Evans forced a stunning save from Cam Mason. From the resulting corner, a header from Louis Isherwood was parried away but the referee adjudged that the ball had already crossed the line and Bury drew level.
Early in the second half Grant Shenton made three substitutions in a short period of time as The Ro looked to change the game plan from the first half. These changes saw Kane Hickman, Harry Salt and Dylan Gairns introduced. They replaced Sam Davidson, Anton Dudik and Darren Ehimamiegho.
Bury had the best chance of the game to put themselves ahead in the 72nd minute when the ball was played across goal and Kai Evans put the ball over the goal from 5 yards out. A big let off for Avro as, on any other day, The Shakers striker would take that chance with open arms.
The final chance of the game came the way of Kane Hickman, after a run into the box, his shot at the near post was saved well by Allen in the Bury goal to prevent a late winner for The Ro.
This was how it stayed and both sides can come away happy with a point at this early stage of the season. It was played in front of a record attendance at The Vestacare with 1320 people in attendance.
Next up, our attention turns away from league action when we travel to face Bradford Park Avenue this coming Saturday in the FA Cup.
