Avro’s return to league action sees them secure a win against Vauxhall Motors after two second-half goals by Oliver Putnam and Kyle Hawley.
Early in the first half, the Ro was struggling to deal with Vauxhall as the visitors had two major chances to take the lead. The best of the two chances was in the 13th minute when Kyle Sambor was able to break through on the right side of Avro’s defence to have a shot on goal, but he was denied by Cam Mason, who got low and saved the shot with his foot.
Nearing the end of the first half, Avro found themselves with the chance to take the lead. Tawab Djankpata was able to cut inside of Vauxhall’s box and square the ball to Ryley Smith, who was unmarked and only a few yards away from the goal. However, his resulting shot would go over the crossbar, wasting the opportunity.
Three minutes after the chance, Djankpata found himself in a 1-on-1 with Reece Trueman, the Vauxhall keeper. He would attempt to dribble around the keeper, but instead, he would trip on the ball and give it away to one of the defenders.
Not long into the second half, Tawab Djankpata would attempt to dribble the ball into the box, but just as he entered the area, he was tripped up and earned the Ro a penalty. Kyle Hawley would calmly step up and slot the ball into the bottom left corner to break the deadlock, putting Avro ahead.
The visitors responded well after the setback as they continued to put pressure on Avro’s back line to hopefully find an equaliser. Eventually, in the 72nd minute, the ball was put into the box from the right flank for Sambor, who volleyed it into the bottom right corner of Cam Mason’s net to bring the game level.
Around the 75th-minute mark, Djankpata once again found himself with a golden opportunity to score. He was able to steal the ball away from the keeper, but as he began to turn and take the shot, Vita Mbolokele would tackle the ball away from him.
Tawab Djankpata didn’t give up looking for the winner, as a few minutes later, he found himself with the ball on the right flank. He would play the ball into the box for Oliver Putnam, who was not expecting it, but surprisingly, it bounced off him, over the keeper, and into the net, making it 2-1 to Avro.
Despite plenty of chances at the end for Avro, they were unable to extend the lead; however, the 2-1 scoreline secured all three points for the Ro and their second league win in a row.
