Avro leap back into second place after a 3-1 victory on Valentine’s Day against mid-table Witton Albion
Not long into the match, Adam Owen played a beautiful ball into the box, hoping to find someone within the area, and luckily, he did as Darrhyl Mason leapt above everyone to win the ball. The Ro’s number ten headed the ball into the top left corner to make it 1-0 after only five minutes.
In the seventh minute, Witton Albion had their first major chance of the match as Hoyle and Duckworth found themselves in a 2-on-1 situation with only Cam Mason to beat. Hoyle would make his way into the box to drag Cam Mason away from his net before squaring it to Duckworth. Duckworth thought he got Witton’s equaliser; however, Cam Mason was able to get in the way just in time, stopping the chance.
Around the 20th-minute mark, Darrhyl Mason found himself in a 1-on-1 scenario with Terry. He managed to drag the keeper off his line and then dribbled around him to have an open net to slot the ball into. Unfortunately, he took too long to have a shot, and eventually, when he took his chance, he sent the ball into the side netting instead.
With one minute left of normal time, Witton Albion managed to break through the back line box and attempt a shot on goal. The defence initially blocked the shot, but it fell into open space for Duckworth, who sent the ball straight into the top right corner of the net for the equaliser.
Not long into the second half, the visitors would play the ball into the centre of the box for Edwards, who attempted an overhead kick. Fortunately for the Ro, his shot went flying out of the stadium, meaning the chance was wasted.
Around the 80th-minute mark, substitute James Simms received the ball on the right-hand side and dribbled his way into open space just outside the area before having a shot on goal. His shot was too much for the keeper as it flew straight past him and into the bottom left corner for Avro’s second goal.
A few minutes after the goal. The Ro had an opportunity to extend their lead by two goals as Adam Owen whipped the ball into the box, where it found substitute Isaac Modi. Unfortunately, Modi was unable to get a decent touch on the ball, and due to that, he knocked it out for a goal kick.
With four minutes left of the match, Adam Owen played the ball into the box for an open Darrhyl Mason. Darrhyl Mason leapt into the air to head the ball into the top right corner for Avro’s third goal and his second goal of the match. With this goal, it would secure the Ro’s victory on Valentine’s Day and a very crucial three points.
