Avro made it seven league fixtures unbeaten and a third consecutive win this afternoon in a comfortable 2-0 away victory at Congleton Town this afternoon. It continued a positive run of form for Grant Shenton which sees Avro sit TOP of The Northern Premier League West.
There was a couple of changes to the matchday squad following our 4-0 victory against Clitheroe midweek, with Grant Shenton replacing the suspended Cam Mason in goal and Joe Green named on the bench for the first time.
It was the perfect start for Avro as they found themselves ahead after just 7 minutes. Fortune Maphosa delivered an inviting ball forwards towards Kyle Hawley and he raced forwards and curled it top corner to put Avro ahead. This being his 9th league goal of the campaign, marking the incredible start that he’s made so far.
Avro continued their positive start to the afternoon and chances continued to flow. Kyle Hawley almost claimed his second goal but was denied by a strong save from Parton in the Congleton goal. Sam Davidson was next to have an attempt on goal, but his effort was just wide of goal.
Parton continued to keep Congleton in the game as he produced another fine save to deny Ryley Smith his first Avro goal. This rounded off another confident half from Avro as they headed into the break a goal ahead thanks to yet another league goal from Kyle Hawley.
With 6 minutes played in the second half Avro doubled their lead and showed their intention for the day. A beautiful delivery from David Fitzpatrick was met by the towering head of Jack Kenny and Avro were 2-0 up! A deserved goal from Jack Kenny rounded off his solid start to the league campaign.
As we continued to hold onto a two goal lead, Grant Shenton named multiple substitutions to retain fresh legs on the field. Darren Ehimamiegho continued his phased return from injury, replacing Harry Salt. Owen Warburton hoped to continue his birthday celebrations as he was introduced to replace Ryley Smith. There was also a debut in an Avro shirt for Joe Green as he was introduced replacing Sam Davidson.
Congleton were unable to find a way past a resilient Avro defence and it was The Ro who held on to claim maximum points. A result which sees Avro rise to the summit of The NPL West thanks to results elsewhere. We’re back on the road this Tuesday when we make the short trip to face Witton Albion.
