Avro secured their place in the next round of the Fenix Trophy with an aggregate victory against FC Oslo on a cold Monday night. Although it was a narrow 1-0 defeat on the night, The Ro were never in any doubt of the result with the aggregate score sitting at 6-2 in favour of Avro.
David Birch named a strong starting eleven, most of which are regularly involved in league games. There was however a chance one again for younger players to gain more time in an Avro shirt as Lewis McGill and Harry Salt were once again named in the squad.
Just before kick off, the snow started to fall and the game instantly had the feeling of an away match in Norway. It was a quiet start to the game with Avro doing what they had to do in the game to make it a comfortable evening. Avro had a couple of chances with Dillon Edmundson and Benito Lowe having attempts on goal but it was a half of little chances as the sides headed into the break level.
In the second half, the game maintained the same level of play. However, in the 57th minute, FC Oslo found themselves ahead with a strike from inside the box finding its way past Grant Shenton.
Avro responded well to this goal and controlled play and limited Oslo to any chances and the hosts knew it was an uphill task to get back into the tie.
With this aggregate win, Avro now progress to the final round of the Fenix Trophy. This will see both the semi-final and final played in the same weekend. With the finals weekend being confirmed for Italy, Avro are still waiting for confirmation on both the dates and the venue for this. This will be announced in due course.
