Match Report: Kidsgrove Athletic 3-1 Avro

It was a disappointing defeat on the road for Avro after three second-half goals by mid-table Kidsgrove Athletic

The first half saw little action, with chances only coming from the Ro a few times throughout the half. For example, in the 16th minute, Kieron Molloy had a shot from the edge of the box, that was on target but was saved by the Kidsgrove keeper. The ball ricocheted off the keeper and into a dangerous area, where Kyle Hawley was waiting to pounce. Hawley recovered the ball before attempting a shot on goal, but a sliding challenge by one of Kidsgrove’s defenders stopped the chance.

However, not long into the second half, Kidsgrove Joshua Thorpe spotted Alfie Venners off his line and decided to have a go from around the halfway line. The ball loops over Venners and into the back of the net to break the deadlock.

Around the 70th-minute mark, Kidsgrove play the ball across the six-yard box for Thorpe once again. After a heavy touch, he managed to win the ball and tap it past Venners to extend the Groves’ lead.

In the 75th minute, Kidsgrove whipped the ball into the box from a corner and found Joshua Thrope at the near post. He managed to win the header and sent the ball flying into the back of the net to make it 3-0 to Kidsgrove.

Nearing the end of the match, the Ro played the ball over the top of the defence to find one of the strikers. Luckily, it found Darrhyl Mason, who worked his way past the keeper and tapped it in to give Avro a goal back, but purely a consolation goal in terms of the match.
