Heartbreak for Avro as Nantwich score two late goals to secure the win and head into the next round of the FA Cup Qualifiers.
Ten minutes into the match, the Ro had to deal with a brilliant attack from the hosts as a well-placed pass from the left flank would find Nantwich’s number two, Aidy Roxburgh, who was on his own with only Cian O’shea to beat. Luckily for the Ro, Roxburgh’s shot would narrowly miss the post and go out for a goal kick.
Not long after Nantwich’s chance, Avro found themselves in a prime position to take the lead from a counterattack. Chiekh Thiam would whip a cross into the box for Kyle Hawley; However, despite Hawley getting on the end of the cross, his header would narrowly miss the net and go wide.
Nearing the end of the first half, Nantwich had the chance to break the deadlock. The Dabber would utilise a long throw-in to send the ball into the box. After a scramble, it would land at the feet of Alex Panter, and his resulting shot was easily collected by the Ro’s loanee keeper, Cian O’shea.
Around the 60th minute mark, Nantwich found themselves clean through with only Jake Cottrell and Cian O’shea left to defend. Despite being in the box and risking a penalty, Cottrell attempted a slide tackle. Luckily, for Avro’s number three, his tackle was successful as he managed to get the ball and knock it out of the box.
In the 72nd minute, the hosts found themselves with another great chance from the right flank. The ball would be played into the box for Bryon Harrison, but Chiekh would intercept the cross and clear it away. However, as the full back cleared the ball away, he almost fired into the top left corner of Avro’s net.
With two minutes left of the 90-minute, Nantwich would break on the counter by sending the ball up the left flank and towards substitute, Bryon Moore, who was able to slot the ball past O’shea and put the Dabbers ahead. After the goal, five minutes were added on by the referee.
In the 92nd minute, Nantwich found themselves on another counterattack from the left flank. The ball would be squared for Bryon Moore once again, who copied his goal as he fired the ball past O’shea and into the bottom left corner. That goal would secure the win for Nantwich and see them progress through in the FA Cup.
