Kyle Hawley came off the bench in the second half to score an 88th minute winner to ensure that the Ro remained in second place in the NPL Division One West table.
The league’s top scorer was not fit enough to start the game after picking up a knock against Runcorn Linnets three days earlier, so Darren Ehimamiegho started up front and Harry Salt was drafted into the midfield.
The home side started strongly, and were duly rewarded with the opening goal of the game after nine minutes, when a cross from the right was headed home by Chay Tilt at the far post. However, Avro slowly began to find their feet, with Salt and Kenny both being denied an equaliser by excellent keeping from Ravan Constable.
Ryley Smith then hit the outside of the post before the visitors equaliser in first half added time, Salt firing home from close range after an Adam Owen cross had cannoned off a home defender.
That proved to be the turning point of the ninety minutes, with Avro turning the screw after the interval and camping in the opposition half. Substitute Ethan Kershaw was inches wide with a low right foot and Salt also came close to his second, shooting just over the bar at the end of a flowing passing move.
The home side were still proving to be dangerous on the counter attack, and Cam Mason had to make a good save to keep his side level midway through the second period. Chiekh Thiam’s cross then eluded everyone and it looked like Avro were going to have to settle for a point, but Hawley had other ideas, smashing home the winner with just two minutes remaining.
