Avro Football Club are delighted to be able to confirm that Jack Morrow will be the first team captain for the 25-26 season.
Jack made his Avro debut way back in August 2019, the club’s first season in semi-professional football, and has since made more than 150 appearances for the Ro. He has twice battled back to full fitness after serious injuries, and famously scored the winning goal which secured a 2-1 victory against Lincoln United in the NPL promotion play off final at the end of the 2022-23 season.
Manager Grant Shenton had this to say about his decision to hand Jack the captain’s armband:
‘When Jake Cottrell made the decision to step down as captain ahead of this season while considering retirement, there were several strong candidates ready to step up. But for me, one individual stood out above the rest.
‘Jack embodies everything this club is about. He’s been with us since our journey into semi-pro football – scoring the goal that sealed our promotion and putting his body on the line countless times, including losing teeth in the process.
‘When I asked him to take on the captain’s armband, there was no hesitation. He understands the standards I expect, and I’ll be demanding of him — but I know he’ll rise to that challenge.’
‘Jake will continue to play an important role in the dressing room, bringing the same qualities he always has. But Jack now leads this new-look squad with a strong blend of example, experience, and commitment — and I’ve no doubt he’ll do the armband proud’.
