Prescot Cables 0 Avro 1

A Liam Ellis goal early in the second half was enough to ensure that Avro recorded their second win in three days on their first ever visit to the Joseph Russell Stadium.

Manager Alex Frost made two changes to the starting line up, with Connor Berry coming into the midfield along with Jamie Rother. The first half was forgettable, with a litany of misplaced passes from both sides and very little by way of goalmouth action. Grant Shenton made one excellent save from a long range effort and Ellis looped a header into the arms of home keeper Mitchell Allen, but those were the only efforts on target.

However, it took just two minutes of the second half for the breakthrough to arrive. Dylan Fitzgerald fired a low cross from the right across the area which evaded everyone initially, until Berry controlled it expertly and picked out Ellis, who netted from close range.

The home side pressed hard for an equaliser, but another excellent defensive effort left them with little to show for their domination of possession. Joe Rathbone had a great chance to double the lead on the counter attack, but Allen narrowed the angle and made a good stop.

When John Murphy’s header drifted wide near the end, Prescot’s last chance of an equaliser had evaporated, and moments later the Ro were able to celebrate another three points as well as a third successive clean sheet.
