As part of our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, and in the week leading up to Plastic Free July, we are pleased to announce an initiative that will see the introduction of reusable pint glasses at The Vestacare Stadium starting from the 2023-24 season. By taking this proactive step, the club aims to significantly reduce its environmental footprint and inspire positive change among its supporters.
Under the new scheme, patrons will be asked to pay a £2 deposit when purchasing a drink in a reusable pint glass. They will then be encouraged to reuse the glass throughout their visit. Upon returning the glass, customers will receive a full refund of their deposit. Alternatively, fans can choose to keep the glass as a souvenir. Notably, any glasses left behind at the end of the game will be collected and reused, ensuring minimal waste, and helping us on our mission to ditch single use plastics.
The funds generated from unclaimed deposits will be donated to Avro in the Community, to support community projects and initiatives. We intend to leverage this opportunity not only to promote sustainability but also to make a positive social impact in our local community.
Charlie O’Brien, Operations Director of Avro FC, expressed the club’s enthusiasm for this initiative, stating, “We are committed to reducing our use of single-use plastics, and the introduction of our reusable glasses is one of our first steps as we build on our environmental strategy. We are working on all areas of sustainability at the stadium, and introducing reusable cups not only champions sustainability but unites fans in a shared commitment to the environment.”
The decision to embrace reusable pint glasses aligns with the growing global concern over plastic pollution and the need for collective action to combat it. By implementing this measure, we aim to set an example for other sports organisations, encouraging them to adopt environmentally friendly practices.
