Avro made it three wins in a row thanks to a strong performance away at Squires Gate.
With new signings Martin Pilkington and Fenton Reeves on the bench, the visitors started the game strongly when Kai Haigh was fouled outside the box, and Jake Cottrell fired the free-kick into the top corner after just four minutes.
Squires Gate responded well, creating a selection of chances with their main tactic being thumping it to the back post from deep, but the Avro defence handled these attacks well. However, Jordan Latham had to made a good save just before half time when Squires Gate tried to dink the ball over him from a header.
Half time – Squires Gate 0-1 Avro
Squires Gate faded away in the second half and Avro took full advantage. First Potts battled past a few Squires Gate defenders, and fired a shot towards the top corner only for the keeper to make a good save. However in the 67th minute, Knott crossed to the far post where Potts was waiting, and he hit it first time into the far corner.
Pilkington then replaced Potts and just a few minutes later, won a penalty when he was fouled in the area. Kyle Jacobs stepped up and calmly slotted it past the keeper to put Avro 3-0 up. Squires Gate pulled a goal back when they hit the ball on the half-volley from the edge of the box, and their second consolation goal came in stoppage time when they won and converted a penalty. Thankfully they couldn’t find an equaliser, as the game ended not long afterwards.
