Winsford United 3 Avro 1

Avro fell to defeat away at Winsford United following a brace from Joe Duckworth and a goal from Matty Boland.

Isaac Modi made his full debut for Avro, with numerous other players returning from injury.  The game was fairly even early on,  but then Winsford went ahead when Joe Duckworth was played through, and calmly put the ball past Latham at his near post to give his side the lead.

Avro tried to find a quick equaliser but couldn’t create any clear cut chances, and the home side then won a penalty when Joe Duckworth was brought down in the box amidst a goalmouth scramble following a corner.  Duckworth duly converted the spot kick to make it 2-0.

Avro responded well to this setback, with Jake Cottrell going close and then Sam Rathbone forcing the Winsford keeper to tip his header onto the bar. Jacob Wood and Kane Wallwork replaced Modi Sam Rathbone and Modi at the start of the second half, but it was soon 3-0 when Matty Boland picked up the ball outside the box and hit a powerful shot which flew into the bottom corner.

The visitors eventually got on the scoresheet in the 77th minute when Kyle Jacobs crossed the ball to the far post where Kane Wallwork was waiting, and he easily slotted it past the keeper. Wallwork nearly scored another just a few minutes later but hit the crossbar, whilst at the other end Latham denied Winsford a fourth when he tipped a superb free kick onto the bar.
