Substitute Ben Wharton scored a brace as Avro came from behind to secure their second away win in a week.
Alex Frost named an unchanged side from the one that won at Newcastle midweek, with the only changes coming on the bench as James Dwyer, Ben Wharton and Joe Rathbone all returned to the matchday squad.
It was a slow start to the game as both sides looked to settle down on the cold winter afternoon. Muis Bibire Bello went close with a curling effort that was well saved by 1874 keeper Ellis Allen. Bebeto Gomes also went close as the first half drew to a close when he was sent through on goal by Kane Wallwork, but his effort was lifted over the bar.
Avro continued to be the brighter side in the second half, but it would be the home side that broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when Lucas Weir’s curling freekick found the bottom corner of Grant Shenton’s goal to give them an unlikely lead.
The goal spurred Avro on as Kershaw’s volley was close to equalising just minutes after going behind. That moment eventually came when Jake Cottrell’s whipped freekick was glanced home by substitute Wharton in the 72nd minute to bring the Ro level.
Wharton though he had won it five minutes from time after he turned home the rebound from Ethan Kershaw’s long-range effort that cannoned off the post. However, the linesman thought otherwise and eventually raised his flag.
However, the big forward didn’t have to think about that chance for long, as a brilliant one-two by Dylan Fitzgerald and Tommy Lent saw the latter of the two square the ball across the six-yard box, from where Wharton would slot the ball home to secure all three points for Avro on the road.
The win leaves Avro fourth in the table and just three points off the top. The Ro will be looking to build on the recent wins next Saturday at Vauxhall Motors.
