Ashton Athletic 4 Avro 0

Avro fell to a disappointing defeat away at Ashton Athletic.

Avro created some early chances early on, Bailey Sloane curling a free-kick to the top corner and forcing the Ashton keeper to make a top save.  Fenton Reeves also had a good chance when he found himself one on one with the goalkeeper, but his lob was off target.

Ashton Athletic went 1-0 up on 18 minutes when Ethan Beckford made a run down the left, cut inside and placed a nice finish into the far corner of the goal. Sloane had a chance to equalise just a few minutes later when he went past two men on the edge of the Ashton Athletic box, before firing a shot towards the near post which hit the post before Ashton cleared. And then shortly before half-time, the ball fell to Kyle Jacobs, who hit an ambitious shot from outside the box which went over the bar.

Half-Time: Ashton Athletic 1-0 Avro

Beckford continued to cause Avro trouble in the second half, nearly scoring a carbon copy of his first goal but Latham stood strong in the Avro goal. Harrop swung in a ball towards the head of Ellis who couldn’t get a proper connection on it, before Louis Potts was given the ball inside the box and hit a powerful shot from close range, but the goalkeeper got down to save it.

Ashton Athletic were then awarded a penalty when one of their players was fouled inside the box, and Ethan Beckford stepped up and slotted it past Latham for his and Ashton’s second of the game.  They added a third via Lewis Boyd when he hit a sweet shot with the outside of his foot just inside the box, and although substitute Michael Afuye threatened on several occasions, the home side got their fourth goal when a pass split open the Avro defence and Cian McDermott ran through to finish calmly.
