Avro 3 Lower Breck 2

Avro made it four league wins in a row thanks to an entertaining 3-2 win over Lower Breck at The Vestacare Stadium.

The home side began the game on top, and when Liam Ellis was fouled on 18 minutes just outside the box, Cottrell placed the free-kick on the head of Louis Potts who couldn’t get above it and saw it sail over the bar.

Potts had another chance when Avro caught Lower Breck sleeping in their own half, and the striker’s first time shot from distance forced the visiting keeper to get down to his left to make a good save.  However, just a minute later, Lower Breck went down the other end and went 1-0 up, against the run of play, when a ball was whipped in from the corner of the box and James Cottrell was there to head it home.  Latham then made a great save just before half time when he reacted quickly to a Lower Breck deflected shot to keep the score 1-0.

Half Time – Avro 0-1 Lower Breck

Lower Breck had a great chance just after the restart to double their lead, but and were denied by the quick reactions and feet of Latham in goal. However, as the second half progressed, and were rewarded when Liam Ellis equalised on 62 minutes. Louis Potts played through Ellis who shot from a tight angle and found space at the keeper’s near post. Avro didn’t stop there though, they kept pressing for a winner and they got just that with ten minutes to go.

Cottrell received the ball in acres of space outside the box, and his cross found Potts whose header dinked over the Lower Breck keeper and into the goal.  Just a few minutes later it was 3-1, when Martin Pilkington ran into space down the right before playing in Fenton Reeves, who slotted it first time into the far corner for his first Avro goal.

Lower Breck pulled one back in stoppage time, but there was not enough time for them to push for an equaliser and so a fourth consecutive win was duly secured.
