Avro 0 Guiseley 2

A goal in each half ensured that Avro surrendered their unbeaten preseason record in their last friendly encounter, as NPL Premier Division side Guiseley deservedly claimed the spoils.

Kane Wallwork, Jamie Rother and Jake Cottrell were all unavailable on a night of monsoon like conditions which would have probably made all of the 22 players involved in the first half wish that they could have joined them on the sidelines.

However, Avro were still able to feel a strong side who more than held their own against their step 3 opposition until nine minutes before the interval, when visiting captain Liam Tongue unleashed a thunderbolt from 25 yards which flew past Shenton.

The second half was again very even, but despite having plenty of possession, the home side were unable to fashion any clear goalscoring opportunities. And then as full time approached and they committed more men forward in search of the equaliser, Guiseley substitute Miguel Valsau exploited the extra space available to him to slide home his side’s second and thus secure the victory with five minutes remaining.
