We are delighted to announce the signings of Matthew Wolfenden (pictured), Callum Nicholas and Tom Carr.
Matthew began his career with Oldham Athletic, making his debut for Latics aged just 16. He played nearly 50 league games for the club, scoring Oldham’s consolation goal in the Play-Off Semi-Final against Blackpool in 2007, and after a season in North Wales with Wrexham, he spent seven years at FC United of Manchester. Since then has also played for Stalybridge Celtic and Radcliffe FC.
Speaking shortly after signing for the club, Matthew was delighted to return to playing in his home town; “I was born in Oldham, so to play for a team in the town is amazing, Avro are a team going in the right direction and I can’t wait to get going.”
Nicholas won man of the match in our 3-0 defeat of Irlam on the opening day of the season, and mainly plays in midfield. The 24-year-old has spent the last two seasons at Irlam, but is excited for a new challenge at The Vestacare Stadium. “I’ve heard a lot of good things about Avro so can’t wait to get going tomorrow against Runcorn.”
Carr, is a 19-year old who will now be dual registered with Stafford Rangers and ourselves. He joined Rangers from Wythenshawe Amateurs in July 2020.
On joining the club, Tom said; “I’m over the moon to join Avro, I can’t wait to get started and be part of what is an amazing club.”
Welcome to Avro, lads!
