NPL Division One West top scorer Kyle Hawley has handed Avro a huge boost by signing a new contract with the club.
Manager Grant Shenton had this to say about the striker’s decision:
‘I sat down with Kyle during pre-season and set him a number of ambitious targets. He has not only met those expectations, he has achieved them far earlier than planned. His performances have naturally attracted interest from clubs who can offer significantly stronger financial packages. However, Kyle has chosen to commit to Avro for the remainder of the season.’
‘The priority has always been to keep Kyle focused on scoring goals and continuing his excellent form. External approaches can become an unwelcome distraction, so his decision brings stability for both him and the team.’
‘This represents an important step forward for the club. We want to show that talented players with the right mentality can see their future here. Competing for and retaining high-quality individuals is crucial if we are to stand alongside the big hitters in our division, and Kyle’s commitment demonstrates his belief that what we are building is as valuable as any financial offer.’
Kyle also gave his thoughts on his decision:
‘I am really enjoying my football with this management team, and I am excited to see how much more the lads and myself can achieve this season. We now need to push on and continue to aim high – it has been a great couple of months both as a team as well as on a personal level, but we have achieved nothing yet.’
Chairman Rob Fuller echoed these thoughts with his reaction to the news:
‘We are delighted that Kyle has chosen to sign a new contract with us. We are never going to be a club to which players commit because of the financial rewards on offer, and his decision demonstrates loyalty as well as a belief in what Grant and his backroom staff are trying to build. There is a long way to go before we can even begin to consider this a successful campaign, but this is obviously a big boost for the club.’
