After a positive point on the road last weekend away against Runcorn Linnets, Avro will be looking to bounce back with a win on home turf as we welcome Congleton Town to The Vestacare this weekend. In what has been a challenging couple of weeks with key absences, players returning and a couple of shrewd signings, there is building optimism that The Ro can return to the form that they have shown throughout the season.
In the 2-2 draw with Runcorn Linnets last weekend, the returning Ryley Smith brought Avro level as his strike steadied the early Linnets pressure. In the second half, Darrhyl Mason scored on his debut to put Avro ahead. The perfect start to his life at Avro. The pair will once again be key this weekend in what will be, as always, a challenging NPL West fixture against Congleton Town.
Congleton Town:
Founded in 1901, Congleton Town play their home fixtures at The Cleric Stadium. They are currently experiencing some of the best years’ in the clubs history with continued success both on and off the pitch. Following a lateral move from the North West Counties to The Midland Football League. They showed little intention of staying around for long, become league champions at the first hurdle, losing just 3 games in a 34 fixture league. After promotion to The Northern Premier League West, they enjoyed a great debut season, reaching the play-off final against Hednesford Town. They fell just short in front of a crowd exceeding 4,700. They have found life a bit more tough this season as, after 27 games, they sit 17th in the league on 27 points.
Head to Head:
The sides have met three times in The Northern Premier League West, with Avro just holding the slight advantage with two victories in this time. The first meeting went the way of Congleton with a 2-1 victory at The Cleric. However, The Ro have enjoyed success in their previous two meetings with a 3-2 victory at The Vestacare last season before a 2-0 win at The Cleric earlier in the season. We will be looking to extend this winning run this weekend in what would be a much welcome return to winning ways.
