Match Report: Avro 3-3 Congleton Town

Avro were once again forced to settle for a point after an excellent 3-3 comeback by 16th-place Congleton Town

The Ro had a positive start to the match with plenty of chances created early on. Eventually, after multiple missed opportunities, Avro took the lead as debutant Taylor Dyson whipped the ball into the top right corner of Congleton’s net to make it 1-0.

After the goal, the tempo shifted into Congleton’s favour, with the visitors having their first major chance of the match in the 21st minute. In this minute, Owen Morris dribbled the ball through Avro’s midfield and defence before pulling the trigger once he found space. Fortunately, his shot barely got off the ground and bounced out for a goal kick.

Just before the break, the Ro had one last chance to double the lead as the ball was played in behind for Darrhyl Mason, who controlled it and fired towards the keepers near post. Unfortunately, his shot was saved by Dave Parton, meaning Avro would enter the break with a one-goal lead.

Not long into the second half, substitute Kieron Molloy receives the ball on the edge of the box and smashes it towards the net, hoping for his first goal in an Avro shirt. However, just before the ball reached the net and before the keeper saved it, Darrhyl Mason stuck his foot out and redirected it into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0 to Ro.

Around the 70th-minute mark, Congleton managed to find some space on the left flank to cut inside and have a shot on goal. This shot was initially saved by Cam Mason but bounced back out for Tom Hampton to easily slot it into the net to get one back for his side.

A few minutes after the goal, Kieron Molloy had a great run on the left flank and played the ball to Darrhyl Mason. Mason would not take the shot and instead laid it off to loanee James Simms, who put his foot through the ball to hopefully score. Despite his shot getting blocked, it still managed to roll into the back of the net to make it 3-1 to the Ro.

In the 75th minute, Congleton won themselves a corner and eventually sent the ball flying towards the far post. At the far post was the visitor’s captain, Darren Chadwick, who won the ball in the air and fired it into the back of the net to make it 3-2 with plenty of time for an equaliser.

Unfortunately, for Avro, their worst fear came true as the ball was squared into six-yard box from the left-hand side for Congleton substitute, Remi Raymond, who smashed the ball-into the net to make 3-3, completing the comeback in the very last minute of regulation time.
