Avro host their final league fixture of the season at The Vestacare this weekend with a win being crucial for our hopes of lifting the league title. The Ro will start the day in second, two points away from Bury with the shakers faced with the prospect of Atherton Collieries away. As Grant Shenton has stressed throughout the season, we can only do our own job and hope that results elsewhere benefit ourselves.
We welcome Darlaston Town to The Vestacare, hoping to make amends for the defeat in the reverse encounter earlier in the season. Doing this would give us every chance at securing the title. However, if this isn’t to be the case, we now that we can guarantee a home fixture throughout the play-off campaign after securing minimum second place in our Northern Premier League West campaign.
We hope to welcome as many fans as possible inside The Vestacare as we hope to make it a special end to the season. The support this season has been much appreciated so as we make final push in the final stages of the season, your support can make the difference in the outcome.
Darlaston Town:
Founded in 1874, Darlaston Town play their home fixtures at The Paycare Stadium. In what has been a bitterly disappointing season, they arrive here at The Vestacare sitting at the bottom of the league with their fate already confirmed after a disastrous run of form. They have, however, often been a bogey team for many sides after picking up points against Lower Breck, Bury and Avro. After a lateral transfer from the Midland Legaue as part of a re-structure of the league, they found themselves in The NPL West. We wish them the best of luck going forward in the future.
Head to Head:
The sides have met just once in The Northern Premier League West and, after the visitors have had their fate confirmed, it’s set to be the final meeting for now. In the reverse fixture back in January, it was an evening to forget for Avro as they fell to a 1-0 defeat on a cold, damp evening. The hosts went ahead early on and defended well to hold onto the points. The Ro will be looking to do better this time around especially considering what is on the line here this weekend.
