Avro ran riot against relegated Darlaston Town by putting 13 past the visitors in a bid to win the title, but due to results elsewhere, it was not meant to be
Just seven minutes into the match, Darrhyl Mason played the ball into the box for James Simms, who found space to have a shot on goal. His shot went past the keeper and into the net to make it 1-0, opening the floodgates.
Not long after the first goal, James Simms once again found himself in the same position to score. Before Simms could have a shot, a Darlaston player slid in to try and stop the striker; however failed as Simms faked the shot. The Ro’s number 11 then put the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0 after only 17 minutes.
In the 22nd minute, Darrhyl Mason barged his way through the defence and into the Darlaston box to try to extend the Ro’s lead, but before having a shot, he was fouled by the keeper. However, he recovered quickly, managing to get a foot on the ball to put it into the net before the referee could even blow the whistle.
Two minutes later, Harry Salt grabbed his first goal of the day as the ball was played into the box for the Ro’s number 10, who easily slotted it past Tom Beeby.
In the 26th minute, a well-placed cross was met in the air by Darrhyl Mason, who sent the ball flying into the net for the Ro’s fifth goal of the day.
It would take a lot longer for Avro to see another goal, but it eventually came in the 40th minute, when Harry Salt slotted the ball into the net after a simple pass by James Simms.
As the half was coming to a close, Adam Owen on the left flank decided to try to put his name on the scoresheet. The fullback fired the ball towards the net with his first touch, and luckily, it deflected off a Darlaston player into the bottom right corner to make it 7-0 to the Ro.
Finally, to round out the first half, Darrhyl Mason crossed the ball into the box for Harry Salt, who calmly converted the chance to make it 8-0 and get his hat-trick.
Not long into the second 45, Avro substitute Kieron Molloy played a low cross into the 6-yard box for Harry Salt, who tapped it home to make it 9-0.
However, the Ro’s number 10 was not finished there as in the 58th minute, he would head the ball into the back of the net to make it 10-0 with plenty of time to get more goals.
Four minutes later, Harry Salt would score once again after a cross into the box found him waiting. He leapt high up into the air and fired it home for the Ro’s 11th goal of the afternoon.
In the 68th minute, Harry Salt added another goal to his tally as he excellently controlled the ball in the area before putting it through the keeper’s legs and into the net for the Ro’s 12th goal of the match.
Around the 70th minute mark, Kieron Molloy broke through the Darlaston defence, held off the defenders and narrowly slotted the ball through the keeper’s legs to make it 13-0 and score his second goal in an Avro shirt.
Unfortunately, despite the scoreline being enough on goal difference, with results elsewhere not going the way needed, Avro are now forced into the playoffs, where they now face Lower Breck on Tuesday 28th April at the Vestcare Stadium.
