Avro begin their first of three consecutive home league fixtures this weekend, firstly with the visit of Kidsgrove Athletic. It has been an impressive start to the month for Avro, winning three of their four league games and keeping a clean sheet in three of these four league fixtures. This briefly saw Avro sit top of The Northern Premier League West for the first time in their history but after a 2-2 draw at Witton Albion midweek, The Ro will head into this fixture sitting fourth in the league.
Kidsgrove Athletic:
Found in 1952, Kidsgrove Athletic play their home fixtures at The Autonet Stadium and currently sit 10th in The Northern Premier League West. It was formed as a breakaway from Kidsgrove United as it was thought the club weren’t utilising local players. They secured promotion to The Northern Premier League in 2002 after winning the league title. It was a difficult spell, and they were relegated for the first time in the club’s history two years later. However, thanks to the restructuring of the league, they were saved from relegation and, in the same season, won the Staffordshire FA Senior Cup after a 1-0 victory over Stafford Rangers at The Britannia Stadium.
Head to Head:
The sides met twice last season with both fixtures going the way of Avro. In their four meetings head-to-head in The Northern Premier League West, Avro remain unbeaten against Kidsgrove Athletic with two wins and two draws so far, Avro will be hoping to extend this to five league meetings this weekend. It was a 2-0 victory at The Vestacare in the first meeting thanks to goals from Liam Ellis and AJ Warburton. In the reverse fixture, it once again went the way of The Ro in a 1-0 victory at The Autonet Stadium thanks to a goal from Kyle Hawley. It was a professional performance from Avro who would fly to Oslo the following morning for their Fenix Trophy fixture.
