Match Preview: Avro v Nantwich Town

After two consecutive victories on the road for Avro in the past week, Avro return to The Vestacare this weekend when we welcome Nantwich Town for another Northern Premier League West fixture. It started with a commanding win on the road against table toppers Lower Breck. Another sensational goal from Jake Cottrell opened the scoring which was closely followed up by a strike from distance from Kyle Hawley. Ryley Smith rounded off the victory by his first Avro goal in the second half. A statement victory which highlights the progression Avro have made throughout the season.

Last week The Ro followed this up with a win on the road against Atherton Collieries. It was a late winner from Joel Igwenwanne, who was called up after an injury to Chiekh Thiam. Avro will be looking to continue this form into the weekend and continue the winning momentum back to The Vestacare against Nantwich Town.

Nantwich Town:

Based at The Swansway Stadium, Nantwich Town were founded in 1884 and have been ever present figures of The Northern Premier League system in recent years. With Jon Moran at the helm, The Dabbers are hoping this is the season they can finally claim promotion to The Northern Premier League. After being in the play-off places for so long last season, their end of season form saw them drop out of the play-offs and ultimately finish 8th in the league, a point behind The Ro. They have had strong runs in the FA Cup in the past, reaching the First Round proper in the 2011/12 season. After beating Ramsbottom United, Northwich Victoria, Kendal Town and Nuneaton Town they were drawn against MK Dons. This is where their impressive run came to an end, losing 6-0.

Head to Head:

When Avro first met Nantwich Town, it marked the first ever league fixture for Avro in The Northern Premier League West, and The Ro marked it in style with a 1-0 win at The Vestacare thanks to a goal from Joe Rathbone. They’ve met on 4 occasions since with Avro remaining unbeaten in the league. Both fixtures at Nantwich Town have resulted in 1-1 draws while the reverse fixture at The Vestacare last season saw Avro win 2-1 thanks to goals from AJ Warburton and Gerry Ebhote. The sides last met earlier in the season in the FA Cup, after an initial 1-1 draw at The Vestacare, it was Nantwich Town who progressed to the next round after a victory in the replay. The Ro will be hoping to get one back this weekend.
