Avro will be looking to respond to a midweek setback after a stoppage time winner saw The Ro fall to a 3-2 defeat away at Bootle. It was a spirited performance which saw Avro fight their way back from 2-0 down to level at 2-2 midway through the second half. Despite chances to go ahead, it was the hosts who claimed maximum points after Ben Hodkinson was played through and slotted past Cian Shea who was making his debt for Avro after joining on a 28 day loan from Stockport County.
Despite a midweek setback, Avro head into this fixture with confidence after what has been a positive start to the campaign. Already accumulating 4 league points and progression into the FA Cup First Round Qualifying, The Ro have a chance to add more league points to the tally which would see them move above today’s visitors, Shifnal Town.
Shifnal Town:
Based in Shifnal, Shropshire, Shifnal Town are one of the new faces to The Northern Premier League West this season after lateral changes to the league structure saw the introduction of 3 new sides. In 2021, the club were promoted to the Premier Division of the Midland League based on their results in the abandoned 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons. In May 2023, Connor Patterson was named new first team manager. In 2024/25, Shifnal Town won the play-offs, gaining promotion to The Northern Premier League and were allocated a place in the West Division. As well as promotion, they’re also the current holders of the Shropshire Senior Cup. They head into the fixture with The Ro in fine form after back to back home league victories against Stafford Rangers and Newcastle Town. These results see them sitting 5th in the league, although a win for Avro would take them above Shifnal.

When the sides meet this coming Saturday, it will mark the first competitive meeting between Avro and Shifnal Town, with the sides never meeting before in any contest. The Ro will be looking to mark the first meeting with a win on home soil before making the journey down to Shifnal later in the year.
