Match Preview: Avro v Sporting Khalsa

After two away fixtures in succession against Stalybridge Celtic and Newcastle Town, Avro return to The Vestacare this weekend as we welcome Sporting Khalsa in what is the first of just four remaining home fixtures in the 2025/26 campaign. After a narrow 2-1 defeat at Bower Fold last weekend, Avro responded well and claimed a vital 2-0 victory away against Newcastle Town on Tuesday evening thanks to goals from Taylor Dyson and Kyle Hawley.

With Avro finding out their fate of the abandoned Kidsgrove Athletic fixture earlier in the season, the league table and fixture list is now finally clear for Avro in the final stages of the league season. We head into this fixture just a point behind the league leaders Bury with a game in hand so every game is crucial in our battle to finish top of the league table come the end of the season in what is set to be a historic campaign for Avro.

Sporting Khalsa:

Formed in 1991, Sporting Khalsa play their home fixtures at The Asprey Arena. After a lateral movement from The Midlands league, they are playing in The Northern Premier League West for the first time this season. Despite picking up some decent results along the way, they have found the movement relatively difficult as they find themselves sitting 18th in the league, just four points above Congleton Town who occupy the final relegation spot. They are well aware that they will need to pick up valuable points in the last stages of the season to remain in The NPL West next season.

Head to Head:

The sides have met just once in The Northern Premier League West after Sporting Khalsa were introduced as a newcomer to The NPL West at the start of the season. This went the way of Avro after goals from Harry Salt and Kyle Hawley sealed a 2-1 win for The Ro. It wasn’t a routine victory as the hosts went ahead early on so it was through a hard fought comeback with the winner coming as late as the 87th minute from Kyle Hawley.
