Avro secured another crucial three points after a dominant performance against relegation threatened side, Sporting Khalsa.
Within the first minute of the match, James Simms looked to have put the Ro ahead after beating Sporting Khalsa’s keeper in a 1-on-1 situation. Unfortunately, his shot somehow missed the net, going out for a free kick, and missing the first major chance of the match.
Just before the 30th minute, Sporting Khalsa began a dangerous attack on the right flank. This lay saw the ball whipped into the area for number nine, Andre Landell, who won the header in the box and almost put his side ahead, had it not been for Avro’s loanee keeper, Alfie Venners.
In the 31st minute, Adam Owen on the left flank would whip the ball into the 6-yard box, hoping to find one of the many Avro players awaiting his cross. Luckily, his cross was met by Ethan Kershaw, who then put the ball into the back of the net to open the scoring.
Just before the referee could blow the whistle, Jack Morrow decided to take a risk and have a shot from outside the box. The Captain’s shot was on target, but was also knocked over the bar by the keeper to keep the game at 1-0 in favour of the Ro.
Around the 55th-minute mark, James Simms marvellously brought the ball down from the air with his first touch before cutting into the midfield and having a shot from 15 yards out in a similar fashion to his goal against Witton Albion. His strike would go over the keeper, hit the crossbar, and ricochet into the back of the net to double the Ro’s lead.
Not long after extending the lead, Avro were gifted a chance after Sporting Khalsa keeper, R’avan Constable, lost the ball when attempting some skill moves in the middle of his own half. Simms would lay off the ball to Kyle Hawley after not having a direct line of sight on goal. Hawley would control the ball and take a shot from long range. His shot went straight into the net for Avro’s third goal of the day, as the Sporting Khalsa Keeper and defenders were unable to block the goal in time.
In the 76th minute, Sporting Khalsa almost pulled a goal back for themselves as Rio Sawyers managed to break through the back line and had a shot on goal. His shot ricocheted off the post and back out for Andre Landell, who had an open net to slot the ball into. Out of nowhere, David Fitzpatrick dived into danger and blocked Landell’s shot, saving the Ro’s clean sheet hopes.
With the match coming to a close, Sporting Khalsa had one more opportunity to stop the Ro from claiming a clean sheet against them. A late corner was played into the 6-yard box, where it found Andre Landell. Landell won the header and put the ball into the net for a consolation goal, ending Avro’s hopes of claiming a clean sheet.
