Avro are back in league action this weekend when we welcome the visit of Stalybridge Celtic to The Vestacare. In what has been a busy October schedule, this is our 6th league fixture of the month with one left to play next week in back-to-back league fixture at home against Runcorn Linnets.
It has been a positive month for Grant Shenton as The Ro remain unbeaten in October, a run which has seen Avro rise to 5th in the table, just five points of the current leaders and newcomers to the league in Lower Breck. With the result from last weekend still to be decided, we continue with league action and look to continue our positive start to the season.
Stalybridge Celtic:
Founded in 1909, Stalybridge Celtic play their home games at Bower Fold, a ground in which they have played at since their founding. They provide a rich history with the club playing in the National League North as recently as 2015. After relegation from The Northern Premier League in the 2022-23 season, they have played their football in The Northern Premier League West since. After a couple of positive campaigns, they will have their sights set on promotion this season and currently sit 4th in the league. Under the management of Jon Macken, they have stabilised and are now aiming to return back to the leagues they believe they should be playing at.
Head to Head:
Since promotion to The Northern Premier League West, the sides have met five times with The Ro only tasting defeat once in a 1-0 loss at Bower Fold. However, at The Vestacare, Avro remain unbeaten against Stalybridge, a run in which The Ro will be hoping to continue in our fixture this weekend. The most recent meeting between the sides at The Vestacare, it was a 93rd minute leveller from Deane Smalley to salvage a point for Avro after a double from Max Leonard saw Stalybridge Celtic hold a 2-1 lead for the majority of the game. With nine goals and two red cards in the two meetings at The Vestacare in the NPL West, it is never short of action.
