Avro snatched all three points away from Stalybridge Celtic after Sam Davidson scored directly from a corner
Early on in the match, Stalybridge found themselves with enough space to have a run on net before squaring the ball towards Max Leonard, who took his chance, but it was saved by Cam Mason.
Around the 20th-minute mark, the visitors had another chance to take the lead as the Celts worked the ball around Avro’s midfield and to the feet of Brandon Newell, who took a touch before firing the ball towards the net. Luckily for the Ro, his shot went out wide.
In the 24th minute, Stalybridge thought they had taken the lead, but in spectacular fashion, both Jack Kenny and Fortune Maphosa managed to clear both shots off the line to keep the game level at 0-0.
With seven minutes left of the first half, Chiekh Thiam was able to dribble his way past the Celts’ defenders and into the box to have a shot on goal. His attempt forced Charlie Monks into action and pushed it out for a corner kick.
Not long into the second half, Cam Mason sent the ball forward for Kyle Hawley, who controlled the ball down to his feet before attempting a shot on goal. Unfortunately for Hawley, his shot went straight into the keeper’s arms.
Six minutes after Hawley’s chance, the Tameside outfit had their own chance to take the lead through a counterattack. Fortunately for the hosts, Stalybridge’s shot from the counterattack narrowly went wide.
Nearing the end of the match, Stalybridge substitute Tunde Owolabi found himself free on the right flank with no one close enough to stop him. He would play the ball into the box for Celts striker, Ruben Jerome, who headed the ball towards the net, hoping to open the scoring; however, Cam Mason once again made a brilliant save to keep the scoreline at 0-0.
With four minutes of injury time added on, Avro had a corner with Sam Davidson stepping up to take it. The Ro’s number seven would fire the ball into the box, where it curled towards the net. Charlie Monks would catch the ball before it went over the line; however, he fumbled around with it in the air, which saw it go over the line, making it 1-0 to the Ro with three minutes left on the clock.
Despite their best efforts, the visitors failed to get an equaliser, meaning Avro secured all three points.
