After an impressive 2-1 victory against a strong Chasetown side last weekend, Avro are back in league action tomorrow night when we make the trip to Liverpool to face league leaders Lower Breck. After a stunning goal from Jake Cottrell and great link up play for our second goal finished by Sam Davidson, Avro claimed a 2-1 victory. The challenges don’t get any easier for The Ro as we face Lower Breck tomorrow evening, a side who are sitting top and have started to pull away in recent weeks.
Lower Breck:
Founded only in 2010, Lower Breck have come a long way in a short period of time and started the season in The Northern Premier League West for the first time in their history. They enjoyed success from the start and had reached the North West Counties North by 2018. After missing out on promotion during Covid through points per game, Breck were promoted to the NWCFL Premier Division in the 2020-21 season. They reached an incredible 106 points last season, narrowly beaten to the title by Bury. But after carrying on this form into the play-offs, they comfortably claimed promotion and have adjusted to life well in the NPL West. After 15 league games, they sit top with just one defeat against Chasetown.
Head to Head:
This is the first league meeting between the sides in The Northern Premier League, but the two have met numerous times in our days in the North West Counties League. The previous visit to Lower Breck marked the first game of the Alex Frost era and Avro claimed a 2-0 victory in Merseyside thanks to goals from Mike Afuye and Louis Potts. It marks a fixture which shows the progression both sides have made in recent years, with this now being a fixture played between 1st and 3rd in the NPL West after being so used to those fixtures in the North West Counties.
