Avro suffer their first defeat of the season after a disappointing performance against recently relegated Alfreton Town
Not long into the match, the hosts had an early chance after a miscommunication at the back between two of the Ro’s defenders. This led to Daniel Odunaiya having a run on goal, but out of nowhere, Jack Atkinson stopped the attack, kicking the ball away just before Odunaiya took a shot. This tackle also led to Avro securing a free-kick.
A few minutes after Jack Atkinson’s stop, Avro would have a chance of their own through Max Harrop. Harrop won the ball in the midfield and broke through Alfreton’s back line, where he then played through Harry Showman. Unfortunately, Showman struggled to get his shot on target and instead sent it out of play.
In the 22nd minute, Alfreton took the lead as Jakuts Kruszynski received the ball on the edge of the box before firing it past Jon Vilar Robinson and into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0.
Nearing the end of the first half, Max Harrop managed to keep the ball in play and got it to Jack Atkinson, who attempted to volley the ball into the net. Unfortunately, he mistimed his shot, missing the ball and leading it to getting cleared by Alfreton.
Straight from the restart, Harry Showman played the ball through Alfreton’s back line for Sam Davidson, who then squared the ball to Benito Lowe. The Striker got a good touch on it, but had too much power behind his shot, leading to it going over the bar and out for a goal kick.
Not long after the Avro’s chance to equalise, in the 49th minute, Alfreton’s press was too much for the Ro, leading to a mistake at the back and allowing Alfreton’s Daniel Odunaiya to have a 1-on-1 with Vilar Robinson, which he won to make it 2-0.
Three minutes after doubling the lead, Alfreton made it three after capitalising on a mistake at the back once again through Odunaiya.
Nearing the end of the match, tension was high between the two sides and with five minutes left, the referee added salt to the wound for the Ro as he sent off Avro’s number 11, Ryley Smith. After the sending off, nothing else occurred and the referee called for full time, sealing Avro’s first defeat in the NPL Premier.
