Avro secure their first win of the season after defeating Leicestershire side Quorn FC on matchday one of the brand new league season.
Not long into the match, the visitors almost took the lead, but brand new keeper Jon Ander Vilar Robinson managed to stop the shot, keeping the game level. He wasn’t done there, as he had to quickly get to the other side of the net to stop the ball from bouncing over the line from his initial save. Fortunately, he got there just in time, once again stopping the visitors from taking the lead.
Around the 15th minute mark, the ball was played over the top of the defence for Harry Salt, who attempted to lob the keeper as he was off his line. Despite the decent attempt, Salt’s shot was saved by Jake Williams.
In the 25th minute, Quorn took advantage of the Ro applying for a foul on Ryley Smith; they worked the ball down the left side of the box before cutting it for Ethan Bojang. Bojang converted his shot and put the visitors ahead.
After the goal, Harry Salt almost got the equaliser for the Ro as he got on the end of another ball over the top of the defence and once again attempted to lob the Quorn keeper, Jake Williams. Salt’s shot didn’t hit the back of the net, but instead went out for a goal kick.
The second half started with a bang as Quorn almost doubled their lead after Bojang was given free space to have a shot on goal, but in the moments before he shot, two of Avro’s defenders slid in and blocked him.
A few minutes later, Harry Salt almost got the Ro their equaliser as the ball was played through the defence, where Salt managed to get on the end of it and volleyed it towards the net. His shot was barely off target, but it caused enough issues for the Quorn keeper for him to dive for it.
Around the 60th minute mark, Jack Atkinson received the ball on the edge of the Methodists’ box; he took a touch and fired the ball straight towards the bottom right corner of the net. His shot caught the visitors off guard, including the keeper, who didn’t even make an attempt to save the shot and watched it hit the net for Avro’s Equaliser.
In the 74th minute, Avro substitute Benito Lowe was taken down in the box by Quorn’s defence and won a penalty. Up steps David Fitzpatrick, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to send the Ro in the lead, which they upheld for the rest of the match to earn three points and start their league campaign off with a bang.
