A stunning second half strike by substitute Ryley Smith secured back to back wins over the Easter weekend, as the Ro came from behind to seal a top five finish in the NPL Division One West for the first time in their history.
The home side suffered a setback after only eight minutes, when a swift Trafford counter attack ended with Sam Davidson heading past his own keeper to give the visitors an early boost. However, after Kyle Hawley had rattled the post at the end of a flowing move, the young midfielder made amends by firing a low shot into the bottom corner to bring his side back on level terms.
Avro began the second half very much on the front foot, with both Harry Salt and Adam Owen coming close to scoring the all important second goal. However, that honour fell to Smith on the hour mark; having already been denied in the first half by a fine save from Charlie Brier, the former Trafford midfielder gave the young keeper no chance with his next attempt, a thunderous 25 yard strike after receiving the ball from a short corner.
Trafford almost came up with a stunning goal of their own moments later when a long range effort thudded against the crossbar, but after that scare, returning keeper Cam Mason did not have a save of note to make as his team qualified at the very least for the end of season play offs.
