Avro are forced to settle for a point at Gigg Lane after a second-half comeback by Bury
In the 10th minute, Bury’s Loe Graham had a chance to put the hosts ahead, and at first it looked like it was the opener, as the shot had so much pace that no one attempted to block it, but as the ball lifted off the ground to hit the net, Bury’s DJ Pedro blocked his teammate’s shot before Fitzpatrick cleared it away.
Five minutes later, Harry Salt won the ball on the halfway line and noticed that the keeper was a good way off his line, so he decided to lob the keeper from the edge of the Bury half. The lob went over the keeper and initially looked to be going into the net, but it strayed wide in the last second, so the game remained locked at 0-0.
Around the 40th minute mark, Avro had a great chance to take the lead as Bury only had one defender and their keeper in the back line. Harry Salt made his way into the box before making the pass to Max Harrop, who was in a great position to open the scoring. Unfortunately, Salt put too much power behind the pass, sending it out for a goal kick and letting the Shakers breathe once again.
Just before the break, Benito Lowe beat his man to win the ball, brought it to the edge of the box and fired the ball towards the Bury net. His shot curled straight into the top right corner for the first goal of the night, a completely unsavable shot for Bury’s keeper, Mitch Allen.
The start of the second half was great for the Ro as Harry Salt charged through the Bury back line before laying it off to Benio Lowe. Lowe took a touch, then put his foot through the ball, sending it straight into the bottom left corner for 2-0 and his second of the night.
A few minutes after the goal that doubled the Ro’s lead, Bury had a chance to start the comeback as they won a corner. The ball was played into the box and straight to the far post for James Melhado, who headed the ball into the net to make it 2-1.
Not long after Bury’s first goal, they managed to win the ball immediately, charge into the box from the left flank, before squaring the ball to Leo Graham, who barely tipped the ball past Jon Vilar Robinson for the equaliser.
Around the 70th minute mark, Bury looked to take the lead for the first time this match through another corner; the ball was whipped into the box and was fired into the net for 3-2 to Bury, having completed the comeback, or so they thought, as when the ball hit the back of the net, the referee blew his whistle for offside, keeping the game level at 2-2.
Both Avro and Bury had chances throughout the match, but none came close to the net, and eventually the full-time whistle was blown with the game level at 2-2, with the points being shared between the two sides once again just like last season.
