Match Report: FC United of Manchester 3-4 Avro

Avro complete a late comeback to snatch the three points away from FC United of Manchester at Broadhurst Park on Derby Day.

Not long into the match, Ethan Kershaw gave the Ro their first chance of the day as he got on the end of a rebound and fired the ball towards the bottom left corner. Unfortunately for Avro’s number two, Dan Atherton managed to get low and save the shot to keep the scoreline level.

Around the 10th minute, Jordan Buckley of FC United worked the ball into the box before beating his man and the keeper to slot the ball into the bottom right corner to open the scoring.

In the 16th minute, Leo Thompson played a low cross into the box hoping to find someone in the box. Thankfully, Harry Salt got on the end of the cross and tapped it past the keeper for the equaliser.

Before half-time, Taylor Dyson received the ball on the edge of the box and decided to pull the trigger, sending the ball flying towards the bottom left corner. Just like Kershaw shot before him, Dan Atherton is forced to make the save and prevent the Ro from doubling the lead.

Straight from the restart, FC United crossed the ball into the box, where it found Jan Palinkas at the far post, who easily headed the ball into the net to put the hosts ahead once again.

In the 78th minute, Matty Grivosti had a shot inside the box looking to make it 3-1, but Donald Chimalilo, his teammate, blocked the shot. However, Chimalilo then used the confusion to his advantage as he controlled the ball, turned around and fired it home to make it 3-1, believing they had secured their first three points of the season.

Not long after that goal, Avro secured a free kick 15 yards out from goal and in perfect range for Taylor Dyson to have a chance from. Dyson stepped up and beautifully curled the ball into the top right corner to get a goal back for the Ro with enough time for an equaliser.

Just two minutes after Taylor Dyson’s goal, James Simss on the left hand side attempted to cross the ball into the box for Jacob Holland-Wilkinson. However, his cross turned into a shot as it curled towards the far post and caught the keeper off guard, as it then bounced off the post and into the net for the equaliser.

With three minutes left before full time, Taylor Dyson on the right flank whipped the ball into the box and, just like Simms, his cross started to curl towards the net, but not enough to find itself in the net. In comes substitute James Dwyer, who flew into the box and met the ball at the far post to head it in to complete the comeback and secure the three points late in the game.
