A first half goal by Bebeto Gomes was enough to secure a fourth away win in the league for the Ro, as they moved up to fifth in the table on a chilly evening in Staffordshire.
There were three changes to the starting eleven against Mossley the previous weekend, two of them in defence. Sam Rathbone replaced Deane Smalley and Tommy Lent made his first appearance of the season, with Matty Crothers moving into midfield. A change in shape also led to Muis Bibire Bello starting up front alongside Louis Potts.
The home side dominated possession from the off, but it was the visitors who came closest to breaking the deadlock early on, with Bibire Bello racing clear and lifting the ball over Newcastle keeper Joe Slinn, but his effort also dropped inches over the bar. And after a fantastic save by Grant Shenton to keep out a header from point blank range, it was Avro who edged in front on the half hour mark.
Potts had scored twice on his previous away day at Leek, but on this occasion he turned provider, sliding an inch perfect pass into the path of Gomes as he accelerated into the box, and he tucked the ball neatly into the bottom corner to get on the scoresheet for the second successive away game.
The lead was nearly doubled before the break, when Potts dispossessed Slinn outside his area, and from way out on the left touchline, his curling effort clipped the bar before bouncing to safety.
But ultimately it mattered not, as despite again seeing far more of the ball in the second half than their opponents, Newcastle were unable to create a single goalscoring opportunity of note. The Ro were thus able to record their sixth clean sheet of this hugely encouraging start to their first ever NPL Division One West season.
