Wythenshawe Town 1 Avro 0

Avro fell to a defeat on derby day away at Wythenshawe Town.

The weather foreshadowed what type of game it would be, with wet and windy conditions before and throughout the game.  In the first half, both teams tried to create chances, but neither created anything of note. There was a penalty appeal when a Wythenshawe player went down in the box but the referee waved play on, whilst Lewis Lacy was booked in the first half for a challenge outside the box. Jordan Latham also had move quickly off his line to stop a  Wythenshawe striker from getting on the end of a good ball.

Half-Time – Wythenshawe Town 0-0 Avro

Avro made two substitutions early on in the second half, Matthew Wolfenden coming on for Michael Afuye and Callum Nicholas coming on for Louis Potts.  The turning point in the afternoon came when Lewis Lacy was sent off 20 minutes into the second half for a second bookable offence.

Avro responded by taking Joe Rathbone off in place of Jacob Wood, and Wolfenden created a good chance when he thumped a cross into the box, but the ball was just inches ahead of Liam Ellis who couldn’t get a touch to it.  Then Jake Cottrell hit one of his trademark free kicks towards goal which went just over the bar.

However, the home side eventually made their one man advantage count with eight minutes to go, when Blake Norton scored following a goalmouth scramble, and that was how the scoreline stayed.
